About Greenwood, TX

Greenwood is an unincorporated community in Midland County, about 11 miles northeast of Midland, where State Highway 307 and Farm Road 1379 meet. It began as a farming community in the 1890s, when open-range cattle land gave way to small farms. The community takes its name from Greenwood Baptist Church, organized in 1907 and named for two missionaries, Reverend Green and Reverend Wood. Schools at Stokes, McClintic and Prairie Lee merged in 1924 to form the Greenwood Independent School District.

Greenwood ISD still runs its own schools, with Greenwood High School on FM 1379, home of the Rangers. Life here is spread out across open plains, and many families drive into Midland for work and shopping.
